Vivo X200S: Leaks Reveal Seven Major Upgrades Over X200

The Vivo X200S has been making waves in the tech space, with reports pointing to a mid-April 2025 launch in China. Unlike typical “S” models, which usually bring minor refinements, leaks suggest the X200S will be a significant leap from the Vivo X200, which debuted in October 2024. From a revamped design to hardware enhancements, here’s what to expect.

A More Modern Design with Flat Display and Slim Bezels

Vivo is taking a different approach with the X200S’s design. Instead of the micro-quad-curved display on the X200, the X200S will feature a flat-screen with ultra-thin bezels on three sides. This change not only modernizes the look but could also improve usability, particularly for gaming and content consumption.

The rear panel gets a makeover, too. A new splicing glass design gives the device a more refined appearance. The large circular camera module remains, but the lens ring will be narrower, giving the back a cleaner, more sophisticated aesthetic.

Durability isn’t an afterthought either. The phone will retain an IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance, along with a sturdy metal frame. As for colors, the X200S will reportedly launch in just two—Black and Silver—while the X200 originally came in a wider range of options, including Green, Blue, White, and Titanium.

Flat OLED Display with 1.5K Resolution

The shift to a flat OLED panel is a notable change. The X200S will sport a 1.5K resolution screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. While the exact screen size remains under wraps, it’s likely to match the X200.

A flat display comes with practical benefits. Apart from being less prone to accidental touches, it also improves touch accuracy, making it ideal for gaming. Given that the X200S is expected to feature a powerful chipset, this tweak makes perfect sense for users who value responsiveness and clarity.

Camera Upgrades: Periscope Lens with Macro Capabilities

While the X200S keeps the triple-camera setup, there’s a meaningful upgrade in store. The device will still have a 50-megapixel main sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto sensor. However, unlike the X200, the periscope camera on the X200S will support macro photography.

This means users can capture detailed close-up shots without the need for a dedicated macro lens. The ability to focus on tiny subjects with clarity should appeal to photography enthusiasts who enjoy capturing intricate details.

More Power with Dimensity 9400 Plus Chipset

Under the hood, the X200S will pack MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 Plus. This overclocked version of the Dimensity 9400, found in the X200, promises faster performance and improved efficiency.

For gamers and power users, this is a big deal. An overclocked chip typically means smoother gameplay, better multitasking, and improved thermal efficiency. If these leaks hold true, the X200S could offer a noticeable boost in real-world usage over its predecessor.

Bigger 6,000mAh+ Battery for Longer Usage

Battery life is getting a welcome boost. The X200S will reportedly pack a 6,000mAh+ single-cell battery, compared to the 5,800mAh capacity on the X200.

For context, here’s how the upgrade might translate in daily use:

Feature Vivo X200 Vivo X200S
Battery Capacity 5,800mAh 6,000mAh+
Expected Screen-On Time ~8-9 hours ~10+ hours
Charging Speed (Wired) 90W 90W (expected)
Charging Speed (Wireless) No support 50W

The increase in battery capacity should make a noticeable difference, especially for users who rely on their phone for streaming, gaming, or extended browsing sessions.

Wireless Charging Finally Makes the Cut

One of the biggest complaints about the X200 was the lack of wireless charging. That’s set to change with the X200S, which is rumored to support 50W wireless charging.

While details about wired charging remain unclear, it’s expected to match the 90W speed of the X200. This means users will have more flexibility when it comes to charging their device, whether they prefer traditional wired charging or a cable-free experience.

Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner for Faster Unlocking

The X200S is also upgrading its biometric security. The phone will reportedly use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, replacing the optical sensor found in the X200.

Ultrasonic scanners are generally faster and more reliable. Unlike optical sensors, they can read fingerprints even when fingers are wet or slightly dirty. This should improve the overall user experience, especially for those who frequently unlock their phones throughout the day.

Expected Launch Timeline

All signs point to a mid-April 2025 launch in China, where the X200S will debut alongside the Vivo X200 Ultra and a new color variant of the X200 Pro Mini. However, there’s no word yet on a global release.

With a host of meaningful upgrades, the X200S is shaping up to be much more than just a minor refresh. If Vivo manages to price it competitively, it could be a serious contender in the flagship space.
