Kawasaki KLX 230 Gets Massive Price Cut in India, Targets Hero XPulse 210

Kawasaki has slashed the price of its KLX 230 dual-sport motorcycle in India by an eye-popping ₹1.3 lakh, putting it right in the firing line of the popular Hero XPulse 210.

A Price Drop That Changes the Game

When Kawasaki launched the KLX 230 in December 2024, it came in as a premium import at ₹3.33 lakh (ex-showroom). While enthusiasts loved its off-road chops, the steep price tag kept many away.

That changes now. With local production underway, Kawasaki has dropped the price to just ₹1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is mechanically identical to the earlier model, with no changes to engine, chassis, or equipment—only the price and manufacturing location have changed.

One Kawasaki dealer in Pune summed it up: “We expect bookings to triple at this price.”

What the New KLX 230 Offers

The KLX 230 remains a true-blue off-road tool—light, nimble, and rugged. It tips the scales at just 139kg and is powered by a 233cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 18bhp and 18.3Nm.

The seat height is a tall 880mm, which may challenge shorter riders, though an optional low seat can drop it to 866mm.

It comes in two colours—Lime Green and Battle Gray—with fresh decals for 2025.

Built for the Trails

On paper, the KLX’s hardware screams off-road performance:

  • 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels

  • Dual-purpose tyres

  • Long-travel suspension—240mm front, 250mm rear

  • 265mm ground clearance

Braking is handled by a 265mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, backed by dual-channel ABS. The 7.6-litre tank is slim, making it easy to grip the bike in rough terrain.

Feature Set Remains Modern

The KLX 230 gets an LCD instrument panel with smartphone connectivity, showing call and SMS alerts. While there’s no fancy TFT display, the essentials for trail riding are covered.

Power delivery is tuned for low-end grunt and a strong mid-range—ideal for technical off-road sections. The six-speed gearbox keeps highway cruising comfortable enough, though the bike’s true home is dirt and gravel.

KLX vs XPulse 210: Specs at a Glance

Here’s how the two stack up:

Spec Kawasaki KLX 230 Hero XPulse 210
Engine 233cc, air-cooled 210cc, liquid-cooled
Power 18bhp 24.8PS
Torque 18.3Nm 20.7Nm
Weight 139kg ~170kg
Front Wheel Travel 240mm ~190mm
Price (ex-showroom) ₹1.99 lakh ₹1.75–1.85 lakh

The XPulse has more outright power and torque, but the KLX’s significantly lighter weight and longer suspension travel give it a clear edge in hardcore off-road conditions.

Market Impact Likely Immediate

Hero’s XPulse has been the go-to affordable adventure motorcycle in India for years. But Kawasaki’s aggressive pricing puts the KLX 230 within ₹14,000–₹24,000 of the XPulse 210.

While the XPulse still wins on features for road touring—thanks to liquid cooling, better on-road manners, and a slightly plusher ride—the KLX is now the more tempting choice for serious trail riders.

Dealers expect demand for both models to rise, but the KLX could eat into XPulse’s enthusiast segment, especially among riders who prioritize weight and suspension performance over sheer power.
