Ipswich Town showed their fighting spirit as they came from behind twice to beat Bristol City 3-2 in a dramatic match on Tuesday night. The hosts scored three goals in the last 30 minutes to secure their sixth consecutive win and stay within three points of leaders Leicester City.

Bristol City took the lead in the 54th minute through Anis Mehmeti, who scored his first goal for the club with a deflected shot from the edge of the box. The visitors had a chance to double their advantage when Nahki Wells hit the crossbar with a powerful strike.

However, Ipswich Town equalised in the 62nd minute with a goal from substitute Ali Al-Hamadi, who turned in Leif Davis’ shot after a cross from Wes Burns. The Robins regained the lead in the 77th minute when Tommy Conway headed in a cross from Mark Sykes.

But the Tractor Boys were not done yet, as they levelled again three minutes later with a header from Conor Chaplin, who nodded in a free-kick from Davis. The drama continued as Al-Hamadi missed a penalty in the 86th minute after Cameron Pring fouled Burns in the box.

The miss proved costly for Bristol City, as Ipswich Town snatched the winner in the 89th minute with a second goal from Davis, who fired in a low shot from the left side of the area. The hosts held on to claim a thrilling victory and keep their promotion hopes alive.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson rues missed chances and defensive errors.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson was disappointed with his team’s performance, as they failed to hold on to their lead twice and conceded three goals in the second half. He said:

“We had enough chances to win the game, but we didn’t take them. We also made some costly mistakes at the back, which allowed them to score. We need to be more clinical and more solid, especially against a team like Ipswich Town, who are very strong and confident.”

Pearson also praised the efforts of Mehmeti and Conway, who scored their first goals for the club since joining in January. He said:

“They both showed their quality and their potential. They are young players who are still learning and adapting to the Championship. I’m pleased for them, but I’m also frustrated that we couldn’t get a positive result for them and the team.”

Bristol City remain in 13th place in the table, 14 points behind the play-off spots. They will face Hull City at home on Saturday.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Cook hails his team’s character and resilience.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Cook was delighted with his team’s comeback win, as they showed their determination and desire to stay in the race for automatic promotion. He said:

“It was a fantastic game of football, with two teams who wanted to win and played with a lot of intensity and quality. We had to dig deep and show our character and resilience, because we were behind twice and we had to deal with a penalty miss. But we never gave up and we got our rewards in the end.”

Cook also praised the contributions of Al-Hamadi and Davis, who came off the bench and scored two goals each. He said:

“They both made a huge impact and changed the game for us. They are both young and hungry players who have a lot of talent and energy. They have been working hard in training and waiting for their opportunity. They took it with both hands and I’m very happy for them.”

Ipswich Town remain in second place in the table, three points behind Leicester City and two points ahead of Leeds United. They will face Coventry City away on Saturday.
